Bitdefender is one of the top Mac antivirus program. It is a top performer in malware detection as well as a variety of useful security features. The program does not come without flaws.

The default interface is easy-to-navigate and categorizes features into three categories: Privacy, Protection, and Utilities. The Protection tab is focused on the features you’d expect from an antivirus suite, like real-time scanning, firewall monitoring and ransomware countermeasures. The Privacy tab offers suggestions on how to be secure on the internet, including a secure browser that runs websites inside a sandbox in order to keep malware from infecting your standard browser. The Utilities tab includes optimization tools and a file shredder that overwrites files using a special algorithm, making them unrecoverable even when they are deleted.

Other features are included on premium plans, including a useful password manager as well as an Anti-Tracker solution that can prevent excessive tracking carried out by many web-based services. The program includes a vulnerability scanner that detects outdated software and passwords that are not secure, or Windows updates that haven’t yet been applied. It also offers a quick custom scan which only takes five minutes, much quicker than rivals like Norton and TotalAV.

The only downside of the app is that it takes quite a long time to download and is a source of frustration for users who want to start. Additionally the app’s “Reveal in Finder” option isn’t working and is a bizarre absence for an antivirus application that home competes with rival applications that can accomplish the same thing with just a few clicks.
